It’s a peanut roaster. Well, maybe the peanut roaster.
While on a recent trip to the new Roadside Systems offices in Birmingham, Alabama, we had the opportunity to sample the wares at the Alabama Peanut Company. The pictured roaster has been in continuous use for more than 100 years.
Housed in Birmingham’s historic 1907 “Peanut House,” Alabama Peanut Company is one of America’s last surviving peanut merchants. They still use the antique roasters that were original to the business. The place was remarkably clean, so we’re confident the roasters have been thoroughly maintained over the past eleven decades.
We left with a three-pound bag of their standard unsalted peanuts, and they didn’t last long!
